Ravangla and Namchi are two different towns located in the foothills of Sikkim. Both of these towns are located in the southern part of the state. Namchi is at 5500 ft, Ravangle is about 8000 ft. Road Distance from NJP to Ravangla 120 KMS, 90 KMS from Namchi Ravangla is 65 km from Gangtok, Namchi is 82 km.
Ravangla (also spelt Rawangla or Ravongla) It is a beautiful state in Sikkim encircled by mother nature and which have the stunning view of the third highest mountain of the world Mt. Kanchendzonga. This quaint town’s year-round pleasant weather offers a respite from the severe heat of the plains. In spring the village bursts into a riot of colours with the bloom of different species of rhododendrons and orchid. Ravangla's higher areas even experience snowfall in winter. Ravangla also attracts bird lovers as it is encircled with forests, where avian life abounds. Ravangla localities are the Tibetan Community following the Buddhist cultural and religious legacy. Namchi is a small town in the southern part of Sikkim Promoting the state's cultural and religious values, it is popularly known as the Cultural Capital of the state. The Southern District of the state is administered from Namchi, which translates in Korean to "Sky High." You can either directly, from NJP or Bagdogra Airport, or combine with a Gangtok tour depending upon your time and budget constraints. Namchi is famous for the massive statue of Guru Padmasambhava and the replica of Char Dhams seated in one ground.
How to reach:
Ravangla and Namchi two famous towns are connected by air, train and roadways. The various avenues through which you can arrive at this beguiling towns are battened below.
By air:
You can also take a flight to Pakyong (PYG). Pakyong, the sole airport in Sikkim. Namchi = 64 km, Ravangla = 74 km Nearest Airport: Pakyong Airport However, flights to this airport are infrequent due to the surrounding mountains and clouds.
By train:
The nearest is New Jalpaiguri (NJP). The country’s other major cities, such as Kolkata, have good train connectivity to NJP. To reach Ravangla or Namchi from NJP, one has to take shared cab or taxi or a private vehicle.
By road:
The stretch of road between Ravanagl and Namchi is a fantastic drive. You may drive to both as well if you wish. However, one must be a tough driver, because the drilling conditions on the plains are very different from the conditions on the hills.
Best time to visit:
Best time to visit: March to June is the best time to visit Ravangla and Namchi Thisime of the year, Ravangla is calm and pleasant, with temperature ranging from 15 to 25 degrees centigrade. Namchi experiences a temperature range of 4 to 12 degrees centigrade Now is the best time to get a glimpse of Mount Kanchendzonga from both the places.
Aside from this, you can visit Ravangla and Namchi from the month of October to the month of November. Daytime temperature remains pleasant and night turns out to be bit cold during these two months. Although raised, you can visit those two months and witness the beautiful blue sky with some white clouds and clear view of Mt. Kanchendzonga.
If you like cold weather and you are waiting to see snow fall then you can visit this beautiful village of Ravangla and Namchi between the month of December to February. So, if you are planning to visit during these months, you must bring sufficient warm clothes as the temperature can dip below 0 degrees Celsius.
